An Afternoon with Al Gore
Saturday, September 29th 2007 - Doors at 11:00 am
Carson Hall - Victoria Conference Centre
Afternoon tea and a light lunch provided by The Fairmont Empress Hotel before Vice President Gore's speech.
The number-one grossing documentary of 2006 was An Inconvenient Truth, a film which offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's fervent crusade to halt global warming's progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. That man is former Vice President Al Gore, who, in the wake of defeat in the 2000 election, re-set the course of his life to focus on a last-ditch, all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable change. In this eye-opening and poignant portrait of Gore and his "traveling global warming show," Gore also proves himself to be one of the most passionate characters in modern American public life. Here he is seen as never before in the media - funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our "planetary emergency" out to ordinary citizens before it is too late.
On September 29, 2007, the University of Victoria is presenting Vice President Al Gore in Victoria, BC, for the first time ever. Speaking in the Victoria Conference Centre, Vice President Gore will convey the urgency of the climate crisis and how both businesses and individual citizens can do their part to prevent its consequences.
Only 600 seats are available for this special afternoon. Following his remarks, many of the guests will get an opportunity to directly engage Vice President Gore in a question-and-answer session. Other acclaimed speakers will round out the afternoon's bill. Furthermore, a portion of all proceeds for the event will be donated to the Alliance for Climate Protection, an organization which Vice President Gore himself serves as chairman for as well as other local charities that promote sustainability.
